Hon. Juliet McKenna
Juliet McKenna is an Associate Judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Prior to her appointment in 2005, she served as a Magistrate Judge for three years. During her ten-year tenure on the Family Court, Juliet presided over child protection and adoption cases, as well as divorce, custody and juvenile delinquency proceedings. She currently sits in the Criminal Division handling felony cases. Juliet is the Chair of the Criminal Justice Act Panels Committee, which is charged with ensuring that attorneys appointed by the Court to represent indigent defendants have the requisite skill and experience to provide quality legal services. Prior to joining the Court, she worked with Lawyers for Children America, a nonprofit organization that trained and supervised pro bono attorneys representing children in the abuse and neglect system. She received the Arthur Liman Public Service Fellowship in 1999, an award to Yale Law School graduates who demonstrate a commitment to serving the public interest through the law, to support that work. Juliet previously served as a trial attorney with the D.C. Office of Attorney General prosecuting civil child abuse and neglect matters. She is a graduate of Georgetown University and Yale Law School.
