Citizens United, The 2010 Elections and the Future of the Supreme Court
On May 13, the Columbus Lawyer Chapter presented “Citizens United, the Supreme Court and the 2010 Elections” at Vorys Sater Seymour & Peas LLP in downtown Columbus. The event featured the dynamic presentation of Doug Kendall, the founder and president of the Constitutional Accountability Center, and Donald J. McTigue, the managing partner of McTigue & McGinnis LLC, former Chief Elections Counsel to the Ohio Secretary of State and former Counsel to the Ohio Elections Commission. Counsel discussed whether corporations have the same rights as individuals, particularly when it comes to influencing electoral politics, and offered their own insights into the impact of the decision on coming elections. John Kulewicz, a respected attorney who serves as a partner at Vorys and on the Columbus Lawyer Chapter’s Board of Advisors, welcomed forty people from law firms, community groups and government offices to the event, which included a delicious lunch prepared by the extraordinarily talented catering staff of Vorys.
