- “What recent electoral history shows is that voting requires broader, not narrower, protection.” Jeffrey Toobin, writing for the New Yorker, explains what’s at stake in the upcoming, highly-anticipated voting rights case before the Supreme Court, Northwest Austin Municipal Utility District No. 1 v. Holder.
- “The amount of money flowing into these races has more than doubled in the past decade, and most of it comes from businesses or trial lawyers.” David Savage at the LA Times highlights the case of Caperton v. Massey, which is set to be argued before the Supreme Court next Tuesday and in which CAC has filed a brief on behalf of itself and 27 other national, state and local organizations committed to preserving judicial independence and integrity . Meanwhile, the Charleston Gazette reports that Alabama AG Troy King filed a motion to argue before the Court in the case, which was denied.
