Today, as we celebrate Justice Stevens’ 90th birthday, we also mourn the passing of one of the leaders of the Civil Rights Movement, Dorothy Height.   An organizer and activist who worked closely with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and other Movement leaders, and the longtime President of the National Council of Negro Women, Dr. Height dedicated her long life to promoting equal rights for women and minorities, influencing American leaders as far back as Eleanor Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower.  Her tireless, yet graceful efforts brought us closer to realizing the promise of equality and liberty on which our Nation was founded.  She will be greatly missed.
