CAC Release: Blanche AG Nomination Moves to Senate Floor, Where It Should Be Rejected

WASHINGTON, DC – In response to the Senate Judiciary Committee’s vote on Todd Blanche’s nomination to serve as United States Attorney General, Constitutional Accountability Center (CAC) Vice President Praveen Fernandes issued the following reaction:

Today, Todd Blanche’s nomination to be Attorney General passed out of the Senate Judiciary Committee on a party-line vote.  Apparently, Senators Cornyn and Tillis feel they have received sufficient assurance that the $1.8 billion slush fund—along with unprecedented IRS audit immunity provisions for President Trump and his family inserted as an addendum—is currently dead. But as many Trump allies, and Trump himself, have all suggested, the fund could potentially be revived in the future. And whether or not the fake settlement is permanently dead does not settle the question of whether the Senate should confirm an individual whose fingerprints are all over an attempt to circumvent the law and unquestioningly do Trump’s bidding.

Of course, Blanche’s record contains much else that is disqualifying.  Consider the Blanche-led Department of Justice’s continued failure to comply with the Epstein Files Transparency Act and its unconscionable treatment of Epstein survivors, its record of weaponized prosecutions, and its brazen rejection of the notion of prosecutorial independence from White House pressure.

Regardless of which part of Blanche’s record one focuses on, the result is the same—Todd Blanche is not fit to serve as the nation’s top law enforcement officer. As this nomination moves to the Senate floor, all senators, regardless of party affiliation, should reject this nomination.
