Joshua Blecher-Cohen

Appellate Counsel

Josh is Appellate Counsel at the Constitutional Accountability Center.

He previously practiced as a civil-rights attorney at the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois, where he worked on a broad range of public-interest impact litigation. He also served as a law clerk for Judge Marsha S. Berzon on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and for Judge Myron H. Thompson on the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama. Earlier in his career, he worked at the ACLU’s national LGBTQ & HIV Project and at the U.S. Department of Justice’s civil appellate staff.

Josh’s legal scholarship has been published in the Yale Law Journal and presented at peer-reviewed conferences. He previously served as a Scholar-in-Residence at the Library of Congress and as a Fellow at the Supreme Court of the United States. In 2024, he was recognized by the National LGBTQ Bar Association as one of the “Best Lawyers Under 40.”

Josh graduated from Yale Law School, where he was managing editor of the Yale Law Journal. He holds an A.B. magna cum laude from Harvard College and an M.St. with distinction in ancient philosophy from the University of Oxford.
