Many in the United States celebrate the decisions of the Supreme Court as a great success for lesbians and gays. Legal expert David Gans of the Washington Constitutional Accountability Center speaks of a “victory for the principle of equality of the Constitution, which protects all people from discrimination.” The Court stressed, Gans told Deutsche Welle, the constitutional requirement of freedom and equality in a previously unknown clarity. It guarantees the equal dignity of all people, including gays and lesbians. “This is an incredibly important commitment to the principles of the Constitution and how they are applied to laws that discriminate against gays and lesbians to marry.”…
